You saw the :-] at the end of the paragraph, I guess? I was just pulling Arved's chain (and apparently yours as well). On the Mac side of things, I consider Perl most useful as a convenient and relatively easy tool to use for stuff that the Mac user interface doesn't generally support directly. That's partly because MacPerl is so fast and generally good at things like low level text file I/O and manipulation and partly because I've concluded that the current MacOS is utterly hopeless for web server purposes if you need to do cgi.
