Still trying to keep out of an editor war.... >True, BBEdit can't access the Type & Creator of a file from inside >the file... but why should I care? A "Save As" changes type to TEXT >and Creator to R*ch. And if I get a BBedit file I can just access it's file info and change it to whatever I want without having to open it and then do a SAVE AS. Alpha has had intergrated MacPerl support (back on topic) since Perl4. I've used both, but I prefer the fact you can morph Alpha into what you want . let me cite an example - I got fed up of having to put #!-w use strict; and what not everytime I wanted to write a new script. I wrote a perl script that did this but it took longer to run and output than simply clicking on a simple text doc that was a boiler plate. But using Alpha's project documents, I set up a format which does all this from inside the editor and auto updates the header in the file keeping tabs on the creation and modification dates (which are printed out in the script on the fly) I don't remember BBedit doing that kind of thing in it's LITE version (free as in free speech in a dictatorship) but then I parted company with BBedit back in version 3 somewhere. The only thing I can imagine that would be any more loveable would be to have the editor written in Perl rather than TCL cos then I could really go to town (I know squat about TCL, slightly more about Perl) oh and it does have EMACS functionality too. But I digress ===== Want to unsubscribe from this list? ===== Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to macperl-request@macperl.org
