And there've been tools for doing BBEdit plug-ins in MacPerl for quite
some time now. AFAIK the plug-ins also work with the free version.

> C? Who uses C? :-)

Well, I hesitate to say this, as I've always claimed that C is one of the
seven computer languages I've failed to learn over the years, but... *I*
use C! It's great for building shared libraries which you compile and
then stuff away in a folder somplace and only call from Perl. I knew
there was a reason for having BOTH Codewarrior and MPW, and now can't
IMAGINE BBEdit *without* ToolServer.

ToolServer is God's own programming tool! It has saved my LIFE when it
comes to building the XS for the WASTE MacPerl API (which is still moving
along slowly). Both the app, and the MPW tool at the SAME TIME from the
same editor! Utterly GLORIOUS!

But then BBEdit is practically HOME to me. Were it not for the need to
check email, and browse the web, I'd never leave it. So I'm biased.
Quite frankly, although Alpha is a fine editor, BBEdit is easily WORTH
the (only) seven-times-the-price. When it's time to pull out the REALLY
BIG GUNS, fire up MacPerl, CodeWarrior, AppleScript, ToolServer, the
local copy of my website, and do some REALLY SERIOUS CODING, I *WANT*
BBEdit.

I shamelessly and unabashedly recommend that every new MacPerl user avail
themselves of BBEdit. Not that I have anything at all against Alpha, and
if you're on that tight of a budget that $100 or so is simply too much
for you spend at the moment, I won't quibble (been there, done that,
getting over it). BBEdit is worth your attention, and in a working
environment you'll earn back the cost in no time at all.

Okay, so I go a bit nuts on the topic. I think my environment ROCKS!
BBEdit is part of the reason. MacPerl is another part. Can't imagine
one without the other. Rarely used MacPerl before BBEdit, and rarely
DON'T use it NOW.
