Matthias is working on a MacPerl based on the 5.6 sources (still in
development).  I don't think he is going to spend time on upgrading the
build that uses the current MacPerl sources to use GUSI 2, though someone
else is welcome to.  :)

I believe the plan was to make it so you could build the next release of
MacPerl using freely available compilers (Apple's MrC and MPW), along with
making it buildable using CW.  I don't know if anyone is sure what will
happen in the end.

That has already mostly changed.  Matthias is working on the build process
now, and has it working now so that you _do_ just drop in the perl
distribution.

Well, that is just a matter of the Makefile knowing where those things are
so they can be linked in (once they are built, if they are not built
already).  So I believe it is just a matter of getting the Makefile right.
