You can pick up just about any good Perl book and read through the Intro for some good insight. Look for the O'Reilly books, especially the "Learning Perl" book. Its worth a read for a beginner and an inquisitive mind. If you are really into Perl, pick up the Perl CD BookShelf (large set of Perl books/resources from O'Reilly).
