Maximum acceptable delay? I dunno - either from documentation or
experimentally. How much delay triggers a disconnect? Depends upon your
situation.

The :t: directory of DBD-CSV-0.1022 has a set of access speed tests.
30insertfetch.t will give you an idea of your input/output rate for a flat
database.
