[MacPerl] Web server standalone and macperl?

As a newbie trying to learn some very basic CGI, I dont have
a dedicated web server and wondered if I can run a script on
the same machine. I have downloaded a freeware version of
quid pro quo but when I call a cgi script from my web
browser, macperl I presume brings up the info box saying it
is waiting for events and will quit in 5 minutes. I guess my
server settings are totally wrong or alternatively, what I
am doing is not possible.

Grateful for any help or pointers to what I might do.
