   I've had lots of problems running MacPerl from especially 
concerning things like Ask, Answer, etc.  I would imagine the BBEdit 
works via apple events to MacPerl so the entry vector is different. 
MacPerl may interpret a stop apple event differently than actually 
getting a cmd-. keystroke.
