I may be mistaken, but a perusal of the configuration scripts for
early Perls suggests that *every* Perl either forks or supports
`formline()', so that this objection is void.  (Specifically, Perl was
not ported to NT until at least Perl 5.000, by which time formline had
already appeared.)  Perhaps Randal, who remembers Perl 4 better than
I, can confirm this.
