I think any measures which increase the thought involved in posting to a list are a good thing. I've done the above once or twice, and in both cases had the option to resend to the list after I noticed it. Not a big deal. I appreciate never seeing messages quickly followed up with, "Oops, that was supposed to be private," and I think the way Matthias set it up implies placing a deliberate value on what you choose to send out to the public. I like it that way. I see it as a trade-off of minor inconvenience vs. signal/noise, and nothing trumps signal/noise. If the lack of reply-to-list really bothers anyone, I don't know of a mail client which won't allow some kind of workaround, like a reply-with-stationary option.
