[MacPerl-Forum] Mklinux on a PowerBook G3

I know that this is off topic, but I was hoping that someone might be able
to help...
I am running Mklinux DR3 on a PowerBook G3 (early model). I am using the
generic kernel #8, and everything seems to work fine except for kppp. I can
not for the life of me figure out how to set up ppp. I have set the device
to /dev/ttyS1 because every other possible setting gave me "modem could not
be found", I have used a pre-init delay of 126, and initialised the modem
wit ATZ. When I try to connect the dialog says "modem ready" and then hangs
indefinately!!! I have tried using slower modem speeds etc.

What am I doing wrong?????

I have a built in 56K modem. From MacOS, my modem will only work when it is
set "to ignore dial tone", could this be the problem, and if so what sort
of init string do I need to send the modem to tell it to ignore the dial
tone. This seems unlikely to me though, because I have the problem even
when I am only querying the modem and not actually attempting to dial...

If no one can help, a point in the direction of some more resources would
be great, I already have the Mklinux book from PTF, it isn't much help
here...

Thanks,

Jake
