See if you can use the modem to connect manually using 'cu -l' The cu is 'call unit' - a Unix command which allows you to manually test modems and other out-going 'calling units...' Personally, while I use LinuxPPC (RedHat Hurricane release), I have *never* gotten kppp to work. I always ended up using 'netcfg' and 'usernet'...
