Learn CORBA, or get CORBA happening on MacOS. My feeling is that if you want to learn CORBA in as pleasant a way as you can, stick with Linux and use a wide variety of free ORBs that are available. Fnorb in Python, MICO or TAO or ORBacus for C++, JavaORB or JacORB or ORBacus for Java, COPE for Perl, whatever. In theory 100% pure Java ORBs or the pure-Perl COPE (I think) should maybe perhaps work on MacOS, probably a very recent one. But because of what CORBA does, given the nature of MacOS, the speed of the MRJ at present, and a bunch of other factors, I wouldn't be looking at this option at learning time. :-) Just my gut feelings on the issue.
