The next release of MacPerl will have a version number that is in syc with the main distribution again, i.e. 5.6. If I should have to turn the Macintosh code alone, this will be labelled as 5.6m{1,2,3}. The following tasks need to be done: - GUSI 2 will (barring any showstopper bug reports) go final this weekend. - I've gone through the 5.005_61 distribution (a precursor to 5.6) and made all the source code changes needed for MacOS (this includes most of the library, but none of the t directory yet). - I'm working on the Makefile next. - Someone has to sync all the non-core libraries with their latest version and decide what to bundle (Chris, I hope). - Once the code is built, someone has to go through the t directory and sort through all the test cases to determine what works, what doesn't work but should, and what shouldn't work (Volunteers?). - The toolbox interfaces (Mac::) need to be revised to the new naming convention and Carbon compliance (Matthias, hopefully with testing help). - To use the full potential of Perl on MacOS, GUSI will have to be revised to support light weight processes (Matthias).
