Rich's synopsis is good stuff to start with, planning-wise. I think it would be helpful to have ground-rules laid out that a few of us are already aware of, but not all. Off the top of my head, column pieces are generally 1500-2000 words (I don't know how etched in stone this is), and if one is submitting for month X, then the piece is deliverable to PerlMonth by the 15th of X-1, so that the editor (Brian) probably wants to see it no later than 30 days before the first day of the month that it's supposed to appear. It would be good if Vicki can confirm this. I guess Brian will be liasing with PerlMonth anyhow. :-) I can definitely commit to 2-3 columns per annum; I'd like to see enough different contributors so that I don't have to do more than 2. As I've got one showing up in March, I think I can volunteer to do an interesting piece for July timeframe. Something solid and readable. :-) Arved This is stuff from Rich: ***** Several possible topics have been mentioned for future columns, as: ? Brian McNett ??? ? Chris Nandor The MacPerl Glue Package ? Matthias Neeracher MacPerl 5.5(?) ? Arved Sandström ??? ? David Steffen MacPerl & CGI Scripts ? Bruce Van Allen Grep, Map, & Sort Brian has volunteered (well, we'll call it that :-) to be the "point man" for the column; Arved has said that he can do 2-3 columns per year. Consequently, I've penciled them in above, without giving any particular topics. Brian's explorations into AudioVisual programming are quite a kick; Arved's tutorials are solid and readable. I have also tried to hustle some folks at Apple into telling about how MacPerl is used in the Tech Pubs Tools Group. Unfortunately, their priorities haven't yet allowed them to write the article. Maybe I'll be able to do an email interview and write it up... ***** ==== Want to unsubscribe from this list? ==== Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to macperl-scribes-request@macperl.org
