I have started the initial work on "Perl Essence", an introductory book on Perl that Vicki Brown and I are writing, based on MPPE. It will carry in the MPPE approach, in that it will: * not assume any programming background, * teach "Essential Perl", a conservative subset of Perl that is designed to keep programmers out of syntactical snafus. Simply put, our plan is to: * Chop out everything that is Mac-specific. * Fill in with generic Perl information. I am fairly well along in the chopping process and hope to have a (very) rough draft up on the web Real Soon Now. In the meanwhile, however, I am soliciting comments from MPPE readers as to things they would like to see changed in this editing process. If, for instance, you found MPPE's explanations of associative arrays to be confusing, please let me know, as specifically as possible, so that I can try to improve things in Perl Essence. NOTE: This is off-topic for the macperl list, but it is on-topic for macperl-scribes. So, please limit your responses to the latter list (or to personal email to me). -r -- Rich Morin: rdm@cfcl.com, +1 650-873-7841, http://www.ptf.com/~rdm Prime Time Freeware: info@ptf.com, +1 408-433-9662, http://www.ptf.com MacPerl: http://www.macperl.com, http://www.ptf.com/ptf/products/MPPE MkLinux: http://www.mklinux.apple.com, http://www.ptf.com/ptf/products/MKLP ==== Want to unsubscribe from this list? ==== Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to macperl-scribes-request@macperl.org
