If the remote server runs a ftp server (notice that it doesn't have to
provide anonymous access), then you can AppleScript and Fetch to transfer
files back and forth.

I am using this setup right now to update a remote server from the "master
files" on my Mac. When I have the time to do it, I will try to write a
full "syncronize" package; it seems quite feasable, but I don't know much
of AppleScript right now.

As the saying goes, use the right tool for the job... a perl swiss army
knive is not a good substitute for a real ftp screwdriver :-)
