The reorganization of the Litprog mailing list into comp.programming.literate that I advocated, for instance, was probably not for the benefit of the group. The last time I asked around on the mailing list, a clear majority was opposed to creating a newsgroup, but this was a while ago so we could do another poll. Send me your opinions (The list is currently moderated, and I will not post your articles unless I feel they contribute new arguments for or agains, I will meerly count them). If a clear majority is in favor of the group, it should be easy to get a newsgroup. >Anyone for alt.lang.macperl or comp.sys.mac.programmer.perl? I'm definitely opposed to an alt.* group. They have incomplete distribution, in particular outside of academia and are almost impossible to get rid of. Regarding comp.* groups, I have a slight preference for comp.lang.perl.mac over comp.sys.mac.programmer.perl, as there are the precedents of comp.lang.{forth,pascal}.mac.
