I crashed with the PPC version 7100/80, MPW Shell 3.3.1.  
I also crashed using the PPC version of 5.0.3r1m.
I did not crash when I tried MacPerl 4.1.8.

I can't do much about the computer (:-) but I can update MPW to 3.4.

All 3 PPC versions (4.1.8, 5.0.31rm, and 5.0.6r1m) seem to work with MPW 
3.4.  I didn't do any exhaustive testing, just ran the TEST program in 
t:, but no crashing.

The culprit seems to be MPW 3.3.1 (at least for me)
