Explanation: Yes and no. There is a very early version of a perl compiler being done by Malcolm Beattie; see http://users.ox.ac.uk/~mbeattie/perl.html for details. As far as I know, it's just barely available on Unix yet, which means it's probably pretty far off on the Mac. The compiler source (alpha-3 release, I believe) is available from your nearest CPAN site. He's also working on a multithreaded interpreter. Interesting.
