This is a valid sentiment, but there are probably situations where
non-editable or non-readable code is necessary, or perhaps just a good
idea.

MacPerl can accept perl code from AppleScript, so one solution might be to
encapsulate your perl code as the argument to an AppleScript "Do Script"
command and save the AppleScript code as a non-readable droplet.
