[MacPerl] Need Misc MacOS examples

I'm looking at a doing a few MacOS-type tasks in Perl, rather than C.

Specifically, does anyone have code or a FAQ file on testing how to see 
if a program is running?

I guess pull up the process list, one entry at a time (I'm running a job 
many times, changing the configuration files, then running it again, but 
of course need to know when it has completed, before trying to start it 
again :-)
