Perhaps I shouldn't have, but I did :-)

I have been asked to forward to the list the Bare Bones official statement
concerning Perl 5 support, so we know what's what, and what's coming, and
can move on to other more Perl-like Perl topics. (Matthias - I hope this is
OK
list material?)

--begin official statement--

Bare Bones Software is well aware of the current inadequacies in BBEdit's
support for Perl and in particular the parsing of Perl code. It is our
current plan to include in the next major release of BBEdit an improved
Perl parser as well as support for Perl 5 syntax coloring.

--end official statement--

In addition, the BB folks would like to note that their tech support
department is rather small and swamping them with perl requests will only
make it harder for them to address our customers needs. However, if anyone
has _specific problems_ that they feel need to be addressed with regard
to perl support, BareBones support will be more than glad to receive them.

We now return you to your regular broadcast...
