I've never tried it, but knowing AppleScript, it's probably slow and more limited than a MacPerl script. You might also want to try TangoFM from EveryWare (http://www.everyware.com). It is excellent for rapid development, runs quickly, and has almost every feature you would ever need to serve data over the web. Not perfect, but close. I actually use Tango + MacPerl at work.
