No, but I did two more tests.  Here are all four for the PC Pro 180:

PC Pro 180:
    Mac OS 8.0:
        MacPerl 5.1.4r4:              2 seconds
        MacPerl 5.1.3r2:             18 seconds
    MkLinux DR2.1 Update 4:
        perl5.003:                    4 seconds
        perl5.004:                    4 seconds

There is one major difference, and that is that the Mac OS tests are on a faster SCSI bus than the MkLinux tests.  Also, on the 7100/66, the MkLinux is on the same bus, but a different -- and slower -- drive.

Nevertheless, it is obvious fromthe first two tests up there that the speed improvements are dramatic.  Nifty!  Thanks Matthias,

Hmmm ... would the switch to sfio have any possible effect on using different EOL characters, as you mentioned in May?  }:-)
