See perlfaq5 (Files and Formats): "How do I count the number of lines in a

Same file: "How do I change one line in a file/delete a line in a
file/insert a line in the middle of a file/append to the beginning of a
file?"

perlfaq is your friend, and s/he is available from the MacPerl Help menu.
