[MacPerl] RESEND: Meet the Newline, same as the old line (longish rant)

Q&A:

I didn't see a reference in there to why the "\r" is set to
linefeed rather than return.  I remember there was a reason
for it but could you repost that and maybe include it in
that posting so it covers that as well?  TIA!  :-)
