I might add that the current status of tcl/tk on the mac is that it is "on
hold", more or less.

Since the formation of Scriptics, (http://www.scriptics.com/) the main
effort is getting Tcl/TK Pro out for Unix and Wintel systems, which have a
larger consumer base, and with Mac development re-appearing in a year or
so, when their business is more solid.

As it is now, the Mac tcl/tk distribution, more specifically the tk part,
suffers heavily from memory related crashes in the menuhandling parts,
which renders it almost unusuable in some circumstanses. Tk has always
suffered from menu-related problems on the mac, but some of them have been
fixed since tk 7.6.

One of the subscribers on the list (his name slips my mind) found that
there is a lot of moving around locked memory blocks going on inte the
menuhandling code, but he had not the C expertise to fix it (yet, anyway).

So, I'd say you better stick to using MacPerl Toolbox calls, for the
moment, at least until either Scriptics or some volunteer fixes the tk
menu-problems on the mac.
