This sounds good provided there are no occurances of those special characters that won't go over the net in text files -- maybe I write a script that finds all the option-f's and replaces them with something else - the option-f won't go over the net very nicely. >> I personally favor not allowing enclosures as they can contain >> nasty things like the 9805 worm or other. > >Which is the "9805 worm"? Please don't feel like I'm picking on you but I take this part EXTREMELY seriously. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE AUTOSTART 9805 WORM IS, IMMEDIATELY GO TO HTTP://WWW.MACINTOUCH.COM/HKVIRUS.HTML. This Worm/Virus has been causing some VERY serious problems including on commercial CD's. I've been fortunate not to get it but I do mostly database stuff using 4D and know some that have learned the hard way to make backups after the data file was erased or worse. >My understanding of enclosures is that text enclosures may harbor MS macro >viruses. Enclosures sent through MS Outlook/Outlook Express, or Netscape >Navigator clients __on PCs or Solaris__ could trigger a Mime tag problem if >you haven't updated your client. Binary enclosures are subject to all the >standard virus warnings, etc... I'm not sure of this but there's a simple way to fix that problem -- revert to Word 5.1 or upgrade to Word 98 and have it notify you before running a macro. Other than that, I'm ignorant when it comes to most other things that can be sent in a text enclosure as I use Eudora and won't switch to an MS product since Eudora does such a nice job in my opinion. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Dennis Little mailto://dennis.j.little@lmco.com Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space mailto://metnet@worldnet.att.net Sunnyvale, CA Web: http://www.lmms.lmco.com/ Phone: 408/756-2170 LMMS: O/EA52 B/076 C/3E8 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
