I think the problem can be solved by increasing the memory partition for the droplet, if my memory serves me (and it has to, since I have no Mac to test this on.) I seem to remember cranking the memory allocation (File -> Get Info) up to about 100K, and then it could handle (pass to MacPerl) a reasonable number of files.
