[MacPerl] using bbedit to open macperl cgi's

folks:

i'd like to take advantage of bbedit's numerous editing capabilities (esp.
showing line numbers to make fixing bugs easier, and softwrapping text) but
i can't get bbedit to open and display a perl script saved as a cgi.
bbedit will open the file, but it displays a blank screen.

as a workaround, i have to save the cgi each time as plain text, open that
in bbedit, fix bug, then re-save as cgi. this can get old after a while.

does anybody know of a better solution? am i not doing something right in
bbedit? i'm running version 4.0--do i need the updated version perhaps?
