All MacPerl questions are welcome, though we might point you to a resource where you can find the answer. >So.. I have two questions. You above say you want intermediate help; here you say you want novice help. I'm not sure what you want. I would recommend the MacPerl book to learn Perl basics with MacPerl. I cannot recommend any other beginning Perl book to people without much programming or Unix experience. If you have Unix experience, _Learning Perl_ is pretty good. If you are a programmer, _Perl: The Programmer's Companion_ is good. For all Perl programmers, I recommend _Perl Cookbook_. Newly out is _Perl in a Nutshell_, and one of the authors, sitting next to me right now, says that people like it. And since I coauthored the MacPerl book, and Nate coauthored _Perl in a Nutshell_, you'll have to take those recommendations with a grain of salt. :) >Second can anyone tell me where to find a basic >example script that opens a text file, finds and replaces some text, and >saves a copy under another name? Thanks. perlfaq5.pod (under the MacPerl help menu in Perl FAQ -> Files and Formats) there is a FAQ: How do I change one line in a file/delete a line in a file/insert a line in the middle of a file/append to the beginning of a file? I think that is what you want. -- Chris Nandor mailto:pudge@pobox.com http://pudge.net/ %PGPKey = ('B76E72AD', [1024, '0824090B CE73CA10 1FF77F13 8180B6B6']) ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
