I've been learning Perl for about three weeks now, and have found that for my needs the following four books are absolutely required: 1. "MacPerl Power and Ease" (the one you have) 2. "Learning Perl", Schwartz & Christiansen (O'Reilly) In my opinion, this is a great introduction to the language. 3. "Programming Perl", Wall, Christiansen & Schwartz (O'Reilly). Without having an extensive programming background, I've found this book hard to follow in places. However, it's great for quickly looking up reference information (operators, switches, functions, etc.) 4. "Perl Cookbook", Christiansen & Torkington (O'Reilly). This one is *highly* recommended. Just about every problem I've considered trying to solve with Perl has been found in one of the example in this book. It's written in a "Problem, Solution, Discussion" format. If you're going to be extensively searching and replacing text, you might find that you need the following book as well: 5. "Mastering Regular Expressions", Friedl (O'Reilly). Good luck!
