The way I look at such things is to consider the possibilties of perl with a
FileMaker back-end or visa versa.  I have used perl as a data processor for even
4th Dimension databases which are far more sophisticated than FileMaker.
Recently I had to gather survey results from a FM database and output them in a
single report, which is impossible within FM, but extremely extensible with
MacPerl and a web browser.  The alternative would be rather tedious.
