>From: bart.lateur@skynet.be (Bart Lateur) > A bit later, the Mac crashes. When you run the droplet again, you see > the same bug pop up again: so the Mac has silently replaced the newer A2 > with the older A1. (Note: this doesn't always happen. That makes it far > more difficult to track down.) This is why I keep off line back-ups of important projects. That is, whenever I save a version to my hard drive, I also Save-As... a version to some removable. This way, when the Finder "fixes" a disk problem, you still have the latest version on Zip, MO, floppy, etc. Also, in order to avoid the same problem with the removable media, you must command-Y the disk (Finder:Special:Put Away). This way the Finder is forced to write any necessary updates to the removable back-up. (Needless to say, you *don't* want to merely Eject the disk). If you fail to Put Away the removable, it can have problems similar to those you see with your hard disk, or others that are peculiar to removables. raf ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
