Backticked commands use shells on the OS's where they work generally, I believe. This isn't going to allow more than what Matthias has already implemented to be run like `this` under the MacPerl applciation. Some will even call out to other } programs (like awk, which calls a2p, the awk to perl translator). In other words, they're for people who don't need them.
