There's not much that can be done about this from BBEdit's side other than allow you to cancel out of the wait loop. BBEdit *does* check for command-. during it's idle proc, but this is only checked when the OS gives BBEdit "time" during the apple event, so you may have to hit it a couple of times for it to take.
