[MacPerl] Getting TEXT out or the resource fork

I need a little help.  I need to get into a file resources and pull out two 
things.  

1.  I need to pull out the text that is in the TEXT resource id 128.
2.  I need to open a pic out of the pict resource and get its height and width.

By biggest concern is the text.  I can get the handle, but I need to get the 
actual text that is stored there.  How can I do this?
