Note that Darwin is an open source version of Mac OS X Server. I am not
sure if the whole thing is open source; there may be some small pieces to
talk to the hardware on boot etc. that are closed source, as was the case
with MkLinux. But it is the basic BSD + Mach portion of Mac OS X Server
(without the Yellow or Blue boxes), and mostly or completely open source
(and, of course, it is available at no cost). Darwin 0.3 just came out,
and the Darwin SDK CD-ROM is available for $20 or $30. See
http://publicsource.apple.com/ for more info.

Darwin comes with perl5.005_02 last I checked! I'll install the new
version after the conference (you need to completely reformat your entire
hard drive, so I need to clean off this 4GB external first).
