Did you dowload and expand the file:
	<http://www.perl.com/CPAN/authors/id/CNANDOR/cpan-mac-0.40.sit.bin>
and text:
	<ftp://www.perl.com/CPAN/authors/id/CNANDOR/cpan-mac-0.40.readme>
I suspect that that is what is meant by the 'cpan-mac' distribution.
