Sure - that will work until you have two volumes with the same name - 
then you'll get unpredictable results :-)

Full paths shouldn't be used on the Mac unless it is the only choice 
(I can't think of the situation off hand) or the software is only 
going to be run on your local machine and you don't care about 
breakage as things move and you can control volume naming.
