No. You do not NEED to run the MPW install script. The MPW tool ran before the script was contributed and it runs just fine without it now.

If you use MPW with the finder around (only real purists put finder to sleep) you can get all of the advantages of the MPW install by changing creator codes to that of Shuck. Double clicking a .pm module then brings up help. Make a command alias to the perl tool and set yourself some directory variables as you discover you need them. Put them in your personal startup script for MPW. You can also add the perl directory to the MPW "{commands}" path if it works for you.
