I personally don't feel comfortable taking so many shots, especially at such an easy target. But I haven't seen any convincing reason why nobody should. Just because he is the underdog here doesn't mean he shouldn't be denounced. I am amazed that the code works--if it does, it's obviously because most of it is never entered. Is there any way, logically and psychologically, that the code convinces us that it won't break? None whatsoever. Whatever the insulting code-bloat has resulted from--lack of design, propensity for kludges, "empirical" programming (part of Perl, unfortunately, but not to this exent) or sheer cynical pay-by-the-token mentality--it is insulting. Perl programmers are not a tribe. We don't look bad for trashing our "brother". My personal experience is that Perl programmers look BAD if they are not incensed by code this crappy. As for arguing that bad code exists but hey, it works, and it fills a niche, and the market's willing to pay... guess which well-known corporation this applies to exactly... There IS such a thing as badness, independent of market value. If you indulged it because you are a "nice guy", you might be contributing to a lowering of standards. -- Tushar Samant ~ ~ :wq ==== Want to unsubscribe from Fun With Perl?
