Okay.  Now, don't kill me on this, I claim immunity under international pun 
laws.

The fork/setsid creates a daemon (well, enough of one to be recognizable), 
or 'devil'.  What this devil takes is the last element of some list, or 
'hindmost'.  The strange grep is my way of saying 'every man for himself'.
