I have a 2 machine network ('til later this week when it will be 3). my hosts is basically: dot CNAME dot.hockey.net dot.hockey.net A 181.100.100.102 yakko CNAME yakko.hockey.net yakko.hockey.net A 181.100.100.100 The CNAME's are short cut references to full-qualified domain names (although to be truly FQDN I think I need . on the ends of the names). There is one space before the A and after the A. I saved it with macintosh line endings. Put it in the System folder and imported into the TCP/IP control panel with the select Hosts file button. On my LinuxPPC box, I believe I saved it with Unix line endings to /etc/hosts (can't remember exactly where I put that sucker at). Guess the computer name for computer number 3 8-) Although when I get computer 3 i'm planning on moving over to DNS (via LinuxPPC R5).
