I have just installed MacPerl 5.0.5r1m (29Dec95) and I cannot get a runtime application to run. I am on a PowerMac 6100/66 and selected the "Install for this Mac" option, so I assume I got the PPC version. I removed MacPerl 4.1.8 (which I had been using) because I was not sure if they could co-exist. If they can, please let me know how to set it up. I had a minor modification to a script that had been previously written using MacPerl 4.1.8 and saved as a "System 7 Runtime" application. I opened the application in MacPerl 5 and made my change then ran the syntax checker which said everything is "OK". I ran the script from within MacPerl 5 and it worked fine. I saved it as a runtime application and tried to run it by double-clicking and I got "The application "xxx" can not be opened because an unexpected error occured.". I have been playing with this but I am not very experienced with Perl, MacPerl (4 or 5), so I am just guessing. When I use "Save as" in MacPerl 5, my options are Text and runtime (plus droplet & CGI, but those don't apply in this case). Under MacPerl 4, I had options for system 6 runtime, system 7 runtime and system 6&7 runtime. Since the script uses the MacPerl'Applescript function, I saved the MacPerl 4 version as System 7 runtime. The distribution folder for MacPerl5 did not contain an application file called "MacPerl Runtime" which did exist in MacPerl4. Also the size of the saved application is about 90K under MacPerl5 but was over 500K with MacPerl4. I assume that I have missed something in all of this, usually something simple and basic, but I don't know what it is? (If I did, I wouldn't need to ask). Any help that any of you may have would be much appreciated. Scott Weaver sweaver@bluenova.com
