Minor suggestion: Have you rebuilt your desktop recently? I believe
MacPerl4 and 5 use the same Creator code but if your Desktop database
still thinks McPL (if memory serves; not at my Mac) documents should
be opened with Perl4 and it's gone then that would explain this.
  Reboot with cmd-shift depressed until you get the "Really really?"
dialog; see if it helps.
