[MacPerl] Flock Function

Is there a need to use the flock function in a script running on a
Macintosh ? If so, does anybody know how to use it. I looked in the Perl
Manpages and in the MacPerl documentation and the info on this function is
really vague. If anybody had decent informations about it, he would be nice
to let me know.
