[MacPerl] "Trouble with MakeMaker"



 I'm having trouble with "make" and MacPerl. When I run any Makefile.PL
using MacPerl 5.1or2b2, My machine (6100/66) DIES (halted dead in it's
tracks) with:

  "On MacOS, we need to build under the Perl source directory";
  
 I assume this is an MPW message. I checked the MacPerl-discuss 
archives and there were messages about MakeMaker being supported...

 Am I missing something, or is this the current state of things?
