[MacPerl] Mac_Perl_510r2_appl_big Question

I recently downloaded Mac_Perl_510r2_appl_big.  I noticed that when I run
it, the hot keys in the menu have small squares where the command and shift
symbols should be.  Is this normal or have I installed it incorrectly.

I saw a note about this a month ago, but I never received a reply to the
note that said it was problem or not.

Do I need this to run Mac_Perl_510r2 on my 68K?  I read the readme file
that is included, but I am not sure where I will need dynamic linking when
running MacPerl programs.
